National Teen Driver Safety Week

AAA Mid States

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, motor vehicle crashes remain the leading cause of death for teens 15-18 years old. During National Teen Driver Safety Week October 18-24, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is teaming up with AAA to help empower parents to discuss the importance of driving safety with their young drivers. This week is the perfect time to begin – and continue – the conversation on driving safety, and to remind parents not to hand over the car keys until their teen knows the rules of the road.

The greatest dangers for teen drivers are alcohol, inconsistent or no seat belt use, distracted and drowsy driving, speeding, and the number of passengers riding in the vehicle.
